About us

The European Consumer Centre informs, advises, attends and supports the European consumer.

The European Consumer Centre in Spain (ECC Spain) is a project co-funded by the European Union and the Ministerio de Sanidad, Consumo y Bienestar Social Forms part of the ECC-Net (European Consumer Centre-Network) formed by a total of 30 European Consumer Centres from each of the 28 Member States of the EU, Norway and Iceland.

Since their creation in 2005, each of these centres offers free personalised information, assistance and advice to national consumers who have experienced problems with transactions carried out in another country of the ECC-Net. The objective is to help citizens understand their rights as consumers and enjoy all the benefits of belonging to a single market.

But that is not all. The European Centres also contribute to improving consumer policies and legislation, thanks to close collaboration with the different national and European authorities. Our commitment: to reinforce the trust of consumers in European cross-border purchases and to defend their rights.

Cultural diversity and the legal differences in Europe may lead to complex situations requiring resolution when you make a purchase abroad.

If you are resident in Spain and have had a problem with a transaction with a company which is registered in an EU Member State, Norway or Iceland, we can help you.

ECC Spain can mediate acting on your behalf when you have submitted a claim against a company and have not obtained a satisfactory solution. In these cases, we will try to reach an amicable solution between the parties.

We will handle your claim, with the collaboration of other European Centres, providing you with all the information in your own language.

But remember, this solution is only possible if both parties collaborate. The European Consumer Centres cannot force businesses to act, or intervene as legal representatives.

When it is not possible to reach an agreement, you can use a second free resource to take your case to court: Small Claims Procedure.

If the consumer is normally resident in another EU Member State, Norway or Iceland and the claim is against a company with registered address in Spain, you should process the claim through the ECC of your country of origin.
